Teaching Children About Jesus

Here’s a structured Bible study titled “Teaching Children About Jesus” — designed for parents, grandparents, teachers, or caregivers who desire to faithfully pass on the truth of Christ to the next generation.

Bible Study: Teaching Children About Jesus

Theme: Passing on the knowledge, love, and salvation of Jesus Christ to children

🔹 1. Biblical Foundation

Deuteronomy 6:6–7 (NIV)
“These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.”

Proverbs 22:6
“Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.”

Matthew 19:14
“Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”

Key Truth: God commands us to intentionally teach our children His truth—not occasionally, but daily, relationally, and sincerely.

2. Why Teach Children About Jesus?

  • They are spiritually open and tender-hearted.
  • Jesus welcomed and valued children.
  • The foundation of faith is often laid in childhood (see 2 Timothy 3:15).
  • To protect them from worldly deception and ground them in truth (John 17:17).

3. What Should We Teach?

A. Who Jesus Is

  • The Son of God (John 3:16)
  • Savior of the world (Luke 2:11)
  • Fully God and fully man (John 1:14)

B. Why He Came

  • To save us from sin (Matthew 1:21)
  • To show us God’s love (Romans 5:8)
  • To give eternal life (John 10:10)

C. How to Follow Him

  • By trusting Him (John 14:1)
  • Loving others (John 13:34)
  • Obeying His commands (John 14:15)

4. How to Teach Children About Jesus

A. Model It

  • Live your faith openly — let children see you pray, worship, forgive, and walk in humility.

B. Talk Naturally and Often

  • Don’t limit “God talk” to church or Sunday. Speak about Jesus throughout the day — in nature, in hard moments, at bedtime.

C. Use Scripture and Stories

  • Read Bible stories (especially from the Gospels), memorize verses, and talk about their meaning in everyday life.

D. Make It Interactive

  • Use visuals, crafts, songs, play, and questions. Engage their heart and imagination.

E. Pray With and For Them

  • Let them hear you pray for their salvation, guidance, and growth in Christ. Encourage them to pray aloud too.

🔹 5. Practical Activities

  • Daily Devotions with your child (short and meaningful).
  • Scripture memory games (Psalm 119:11).
  • Gospel-centered books or shows (like “The Beginner’s Bible” or “Jesus Storybook Bible”).
  • Family worship times — singing, reading, and praying together.
  • Encourage serving others with simple acts of love in Jesus’ name.

6. The Goal: Heart Transformation

2 Timothy 3:15 (NLT)
“You have been taught the holy Scriptures from childhood, and they have given you the wisdom to receive the salvation that comes by trusting in Christ Jesus.”

Our ultimate aim is not behavior modification, but heart transformation — that children would personally come to know and trust Jesus as Savior and Lord.

Closing Prayer

Lord Jesus, thank You for the precious gift of children. Help us to teach them not just with words, but with lives surrendered to You. Give us wisdom, patience, and joy as we guide them into the truth of who You are. May every child we nurture come to know and love You deeply. Amen.

Why Didn’t You Tell Me About Jesus?”

Daddy, Mommy, Nanny, and Poppy,
You gave me hugs and kissed my knees,
You read me books and sang me songs,
And chased away my childhood fears.

You taught me how to ride my bike,
To say “please” and “thank you” too,
You cheered me on from sidelines loud—
Oh, the love I had from you!

But now I ask with tear-stained eyes,
A question deep and true…
Why didn’t you tell me of Jesus’ love,
Of the cross He bore for me and you?

You spoke of dreams and growing up,
Of school and work and pride.
But no one said His name to me,
Or told me how He died.

You taught me to be kind and good,
To share, to try, to pray—
But no one told me Jesus,
The Truth, the Life, the way.

You gave me toys and birthday cakes,
You showed me right from wrong.
But didn’t tell me of Jesus’s love,
Of Heaven’s joyful song?

You warned me of the world’s hard ways,
You tried to keep me safe.
But left me blind to sin and grace,
To Jesus’ saving faith.

So Daddy, Mommy, Nanny, Poppy,
I still love you all the same.
But oh, how I wish you’d told me
Of Jesus’ holy name.

🎵 “Why Didn’t You Tell Me About Jesus?”

(Lyrics version)

Verse 1
Daddy and Mommy, Nanny and Poppy,
You held my hand when skies were grey.
You wiped my tears and told me stories,
And tucked me in at the end of day.

You showed me love in a thousand ways,
You gave me laughter, gave me light—
But something deeper, something missing,
Was never spoken late at night…

Chorus
🎶 Why didn’t you tell me about Jesus?
Why didn’t you say He died for me?
You gave me the world, but not the Savior,
Left me blind when I could’ve been free.
I needed His name more than all the others—
Oh, why didn’t you tell me about Jesus? 🎶

Verse 2
You taught me kindness, taught me courage,
You cheered me on with every race.
But no one said He walked on water,
Or bore my sins in love and grace.

You warned me of the world’s dark places,
You tried to keep my heart from harm.
But not a word of Heaven’s promise,
No cross, no blood, no Savior’s arms…

(Repeat Chorus)
🎶 Why didn’t you tell me about Jesus?
Why didn’t you say He died for me?
You gave me the world, but not the Savior,
Left me blind when I could’ve been free.
I needed His name more than all the others—
Oh, why didn’t you tell me about Jesus? 🎶

Bridge
Now I’ve found Him, and He’s forgiven—
Grace has healed what you forgot.
But oh, the tears I cried in silence,
Longing for the truth you never taught…

Final Chorus (soft to strong)
🎶 Now I will tell others about Jesus,
I’ll speak His name so they will see.
No child should walk the road without Him,
No heart should miss eternity.
He’s more than a story, He’s life everlasting—
So I’ll go and tell them about Jesus…
Yes, I’ll go and tell them about Jesus. 🎶
